It's been a funny year. It's been a mixed year. It's been a year of ups and downs. Mostly it's been a pretty good year, though there have been times. Yes, there have been times... As I sit down on New Years Eve to think about what's happened in my life this year, there's so much to reflect upon: overseas trips, new adventures at work, and the death of a close family member. I ended last year feeling 2009 had been a year of treading water: I hadn't really done all that much exciting in either my personal or professional life. Last year I had the excitement of my "big overseas trip". I always knew it was going to be a bit of a life changing experience, and it was. At the end of this year, I'm conscious about how much I'm still referring back to it. But I don't want to become one of those people who keeps referring back to things that happened in the past. You know how you sometimes look back at a year and think, "thank goodness that's over"? Well, that's most definitely NOT the way I feel about this year. Rather it's been one of the most amazing years of my life. For me, it's been a year of extreme highs and extreme lows. As I sit down to write this "year in review", I'm conscious that I'm more interested in what's ahead in 2008 than what occured in 2007. Not that it was a bad year in my life, it's just that I'm approaching 2008 with a great deal more excitement than I approached 2007. Last year I found the Year In Review post a difficult one to write, so I simply resorted to a "Top 10" list. Twelve months ago I was still in the midst of coping with turning forty. At about this time last year I wrote... "Turning forty wasn't so bad after all, although I did have a brief midlife crisis in the weeks leading up to the actual event.
