Love Cemeteries
It’s Saturday night. I’ve just had a lovely afternoon eating, drinking and walking with John around Newtown, discovering things about the suburb I hadn’t previously known. For example, we paid a visit to Camperdown Cemetery. I do like visiting cemeteries… the history and all that kind of thing… and this one, in particular was fascinating.
The Camperdown Cemetery surrounds St Stephen’s Anglican Church, which fronts onto Church Street, Newtown. Most of the burials in this cemetery occurred between 1848-1880 and there are, apparently, quite a few famous people amongst the 18,000 buried. We didn’t actually see any famous graves, but we did enjoy this peaceful little oasis in the midst of inner city suburbia.
