Booty Call

“That’s not even a mid-afternoon nap”, he replied, noting that it was only just after lunchtime. I guess the impact of working full-time after a three month break, and then having a couple of social activities has caught up with. “Wanna catch up?”, he said.
“Sure, let’s do some galleries”, I replied. There’s a City of Sydney event at the moment called “Art around Sydney” or something like that which I was planning to attend the launch of, and picked up a brochure for on the way home from having dinner with John and James.
Co-inciding with Primavera at the MCA, there’s lots of exhibitions around the city and the laneways are being decorated with public art. We met at Taylor Square where the “Love TV” project, which sounds like it’s some sort of live performance, is underway during October.
After a coffee and a post-holiday catchup, we wandered up to the gallery at COFA (where there’s some really interesting Chinese art, including some wonderful coloured pencil “propaganda” style art work, as well as a beautiful long scroll pencil drawing of human hair). We then wandered over to the National Art School, where they were installing some HSC work, visited the Taylor Square Toilets (now an underground gallery space) and then to the public art photography project in Hyde Park. It was just a brief look in Hyde Park, though, as next week, Andrew and I are booked onto a curatorial walk which should be excellent.
For a while we just sat in the park watching the world go by, which was great fun.
And then we wandered back to Sam’s place in The Cross to chat further, have a bit to eat, a drink, to listen to some music, and to watch some television. All the usual fun stuff.
So, all in all, a day that was probably going to just be all about me, the couch, and the television turned into a really nice Saturday, thanks to a non-sexual Saturday afternoon “booty call”. :)
Is that the Shoot the Chef thing in Hyde Park? I’m off to see that one night this week as the Noodle Markets start tomorrow too.
I also want to see the Monet exhibition that started on Saturday. Who said Sydney doesn’t do cultcha?
It’s the Sydney Life exhibition actually.
Looking forward to the Noodle Markets, as I actually haven’t been to them before. Can you believe it? :)
Sydney actually does cultcha pretty well. For all the Melb-Syd stuff about “cultural capitals” blah blah, all the Bureau of Stats figures show that in actual and per capita terms Sydney-siders are bigger arts producers and consumers. In Melbourne, they go to the footy, in Sydney we go the gallery.
