Light Rail Construction

Posted by

For most people photographs of the construction of a light-rail (tram) aren’t that interesting. For me, they are, especially as it’s happening in my neighbourhood, and will continue to do so for the next 12-18 months. For the most part, it’s still lots of photographs of holes in the ground, but eventually it will get interesting, I am sure.

  1. I have a mostly written post on your new tram, but I have realised some of it is just wrong. I can’t see me getting the time before we travel to get it finished. How it is powered from the Quay to Park Street is one of the most interesting aspects and my sources of grumpy old men who remember proper Sydney trams say it will quickly fail and be replaced by conventional overhead wires. I think you once mentioned about the tram travelling along Oxford Street instead of Devonshire Street. The prime need, I think, is an efficient tram between the Quay and Central. Secondary is where it goes from there. There is undoubtedly pent up demand for a tram along Oxford Street, but in this case, I am with the planners so far as the Quay and Central need a good connection along a city street where people can hop on and off.
