Ben & Annie Rixon Picnic
One hundred years ago, in 1917, Benjamin Rixon [g’g’son of James & Amelia] & Eliza Ann Sleep Rixon bought a block of farming land on Eden Creek at Wyneden, near Kyogle – part of the original Wiangaree Station, owned by the Bundock Family.
Ben & Annie [as she was known] had left the Crookwell region in 1906 to make a better life for their growing family on the Far North Coast. After living at various places around Lismore & Nimbin they moved to Eden Creek and then to Upper Eden Creek to their own land. A successful dairy farm was established. Later it became a grazing farm and is still owned and run by Rixons.
Fifty one descendants celebrated the past 100 years with a Picnic on the farm on Easter Sunday. Ages of attendees ranged from 92, a grand-daughter in law – Leila Summers, to 4 weeks, a great grandson – Jimmy Rixon.
