The views from the ninth floor of St Vincent’s Public Hospital in Sydney are pretty damn good. “Imagine what they must be like in the private wing”, I joked with my friend I visited there late this afternoon. After a tough couple of weeks, he’s doing well, and looking forward to moving out tomorrow.

It was actually the first time I’d left the house all day. The weather was “kinda shitty” in Sydney, though there was some good light around late this afternoon, and there was even a rainbow over Oxford Street. “It’s a sign”, I thought to myself.

I don’t know why but I just felt like a good sleep-in this morning. I slept until about eleven, got up, made some breakfast, listened to the radio for a while, and then went back to sleep until about three o’clock. In some ways I felt like a teenager all over again. You know how they sleep until lunch-time and more when they’re going through those “growing years”? Maybe I’m doing the same as part of my “mid-life transformation”? Yep, sleeping, tv, a bit of social contact, that’s been pretty much my Sunday.

Aside from a brief visit to the supermarket, and a Skype call with the family at home in Lismore, that’s been my only contact with the outside world today.

Oh yeah, and I did pop into a gallery on Oxford Street on the way home tonight. It’s one of the much-promised “use of empty shops on Oxford Street as art space” galleries. An artist called ellendisaster has an exhibition there which features people photographed people in 100 different bedrooms. I thought it was a really interesting and engaging exhibition, since the people were all quite different.

And from there, I came home for a quiet night of baking, yes baking. I’m making a banana and museli loaf (okay, maybe it’s cake) which I plan on taking to work for morning tea.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve tried to make as much of the weekend as possible, by going out on a Sunday night for drinks, a dance, or some dinner. I still do, from time to time, but tonight I find myself baking. Yes, baking!

After a sleepy weekend, next weekend is going to take all my energy. There’s an exhibition opening Thursday; birthday drinks on Friday; TedX on Saturday followed by an ABBA fan celebration (that’s gonna be a day of contrasts); and then next Sunday, it’s Eurovision time. Yes, I feel justified in having not done very much at all today.

OMG! I am now completely convinced that aliens have “taken over” James. I started to get concerned when he told me about housecleaning and saw fresh flowers in the kitchen. Now he’s BAKING. Aliens have definitely invaded his body I am sure. The ginal piece of evidencce was when I talked to him today and he had to hang up quickly to CLEAN the fridge!!!! How do I get in touch with Sculley and Mulder?

Well it is 2012, and we’re all going to be revealed as alien descendants later this year, so I’m just getting in early and fashionable, as always :)
