Back on the beers
There’s a pub at Taylor Square in Sydney called “The Oxford” which I’ve visited on many, many occasions. Back in the 90s, it was a gay pub and it was always packed to the rafters. I have many, many fond memories of the pub during those years.
Though I don’t recall exactly when it was, they re-developed the pub a number of years ago, and seeking to attract a broader and presumably larger clientelle, they decided they were no longer running a “gay pub”.… Read the rest “Back on the beers”

Lockdown Deadline
For the first time in eighteen months, I went for a swim in a “proper swimming pool”. In fact, it was the same pool where I learned to swim fifty-something years ago.

But I figured after five weeks lockdown in Lismore, I was doing my bit for the local economy by popping in for a ginger beer.… Read the rest “Lismore Lockdown Lifts”

Everyone’s Drinking
“Have you printed off your vaccination certificate?”, I asked a family member earlier in the week. He’s a tradie who has been living and working in New South Wales for several months, and has been staying with us for about the last four weeks.
Lately, the work he does has started to dry up, and he’s been starting to feel a little homesick, keen to see his closer family.… Read the rest “Everyone’s Drinking”

Are You Still Here?
“Are you still here?”, I was asked earlier today by a former colleague from Sydney, now living near Lismore. “Do you really think I’d be heading back to Sydney right now?”, I replied.
Every day, there are several hundred new cases in Sydney, and every day most of the new cases involve people who have been infectious out and about in the community.… Read the rest “Are You Still Here?”
