A friend and I had been talking about going to see “Flow” for a couple of weeks. He has a few other things on his plate at the moment and in the end, decided he couldn’t make the commitment.

First Nations Media Conference – Converge

There was a wonderful moment at the First Nations Media Conference (Converge) when Miriam Corowa was presented with an award for her achievements in journalism.

You might know Miriam from her appearances on the ABC News channel, or from other work she has done in the media, including at SBS. It’s been quite a journey from her time doing Year 11 work experience at the ABC in Lismore!

Tropical Fruits Parade and Launch

If I think about all of the things which have happened in terms of gay life in Lismore during my lifetime, there’s a lot to reflect upon.

As a teenager, I remember the homophobic editorials of Jim Brigginshaw, Editor of “The Northern Star”. I remember doing a school project, aged 16, where I was part of a group that interviewed him, and I was terrified.

Lismore’s Big Log: As a teenager, I also remember the social scene was very much based around “the beats”, and in particular, the log outside the City Hall.
