Crossing Boundaries – Chinese New Year Exhibition in Sydney
Thought I’d give a mention to an exhibition my friend Kate has managed and curated for the forthcoming Chinese New Year Celebrations in Sydney.
This year’s exhibition follows on from the exhibition she curated last year which was fantastic.
Kate describes the exhibition in these terms
Crossing Boundaries is a true celebration of the depth and range of relationships and artistic exchange that exists between Australia and the Asia Pacific as shown through the work of our extraordinarily talented Asian Australian artists.
One of the great strengths of our Australian population has been the ability to build upon what we share and celebrate our unique differences.
Artists participating in Crossing Boundaries have created new work that reflects upon individual journeys undertaken, boundaries crossed and new territories explored to provide a dynamic exhibition with strong celebratory flavour for the Year of the Horse.
Crossing Boundaries presents audiences with an eclectic range of paintings, sculptures, photographs, multi media, ceramics, installations, sound and videos which invite high levels of public interaction.
In designing Crossing Boundaries I have worked hard to create new opportunities for dialogue and cultural exchange between participating artists and audiences through a vibrant public program featuring daily floor talks and artist forums.
Crossing Boundaries includes a dedicated Children’s Program featuring William Yang’s – Australia Now (generously loaned by the Artist and the Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art), which invites young people and their families to explore aspects of their identity and
Pamela See’s Horsing Around which encourages our audiences to extend the exhibition out into the broader community through the distribution of hundreds of editioned cutouts of Chinese terracotta warrior horses.
The exhibition is on from January 22 to Feburary 9, downstairs at Sydney Town Hall, so I hope if you’re in Sydney you’ll have time to take a look.
