Hi James. I live at Wolumla NSW and found your blog while working on my family history. I am related to Ray O’Brien very distantly. His grandmother, Adelia (nee JOHNSON) SPINKS was an older sister of my great-grandmother Elizabeth Matilda (nee JOHNSON) DAVEY. This would make Adelia my great, great aunt. I have some info on Ray’s father and mother but you have so much more in your blog. I would like your permission to use the information on Ray and his parents, with appropriate annotations as to source. I would also include you in my Acnowledgements section for your information etc. The history is a work in progress and I have no idea of a completion date yet. I would be happy to send you a final copy of the text whenever that may be.

Great James. Much appreciated. I would like to include the photo of Roy/Ray and his mother that is in the blog. Is this a family photo or is it from a newspaper? I would like to get the source correct.
I notice that Roy/Ray is in uniform. Was this for Korea or some other conflict? I have a section dedicated to In Service of Their Country and he would be the first Korean or other nonWW conflict representative. I found a Raymond Cecil O’Brien on the DVA Nominal Rolls. He was born in 1934. Could you please confirm your relative’s name and, if you have it, date of birth?

Hi James. No problem, I worked my way around it and got a usable image. will compare this clear one with what I ended up with. Roy O’Brien was actually Raymond Cecil O’Brien. Born 11 May 1934, died maybe 2003. Married June Gladys X. they had a son Wayne Nixman? Raymond Cecil served in Korea and did a stint in the regular Army as well. ended up in Qld. Possible instructor at Enoggera Barracks. Was shown as soldier on electoral rolls until 1972, then as instructor, but still living in the Enoggera area. In 1980 a Darren Raymond O’Brien was shown living with Raymond and June. He was a factory hand and may have been another son. DVA has a service summary for him for the Korean War. He married in possibly 1957. His mother remarried. thanks again for agreeing to share your family.

After much research my friend found out that we had been researching the wrong family tree. Sadly, we are not related. However, I sent a copy of the JOHNSON family text to three NSW Councils for their family history records. I only heard back from one council – Singleton. they were rapt to get the info. If you would like a copy of this document please let know. It is about 100 pages including photos. Your contribution is acknowledged in the document. thanks again for all your help. My correct JOHNSON family is proving more elusive.
