Genre Check
GENRE CHECK
I was chatting with some people at work yesterday about musical tastes, blah blah. And because it’s well known that I’m an ABBA fan, it was automatically assumed that my taste in music was of a narrow genre range, which I assured them it was not.
So as an interesting exercise, I went to iTunes and sorted by genre. It’s problematic though, since using iTunes you’re often relying on the classification system of others, which I often question, but anyway.
ALTERNATIVE: 79 songs
AMBIENT: 6 songs
BLUES: 26 songs
CLASSICAL: 89 songs
COUNTRY: 39 songs
DANCE: 2 songs
DISCO: 36 songs
EASY LISTENING: 143 songs
ELECTRONIC: 1 song
ELECTRONICA: 210 songs
EURODANCE: 2 songs
FOLK: 73 songs
GOSPEL AND RELIGIOUS: 27 songs
HIP HOP AND RAP: 4 songs
JAZZ: 192 songs
JAZZ FUSION: 1 song
METAL: 14 songs
MUSICAL: 55 songs
NEW AGE: 4 songs
NEW WAVE: 1 song
OTHER: 43 songs
POP: 431 songs
R&B: 54 songs
ROCK: 140 songs
SOUNDTRACK: 104 songs
TOP 40: 1
UNCLASSIFIABLE: 26 songs
VOCAL: 1
WORLD MUSIC: 55 songs
So yeh, I guess most of my iTunes does consist of “pop”, but that’s largely because the classification system is so haphazard and because I’ve imported all of my ABBA songs. Taking out ABBA, I have 10 pop tunes.
