Christmas Pudding

“Make sure Jack gets some of the puddings from Aldi before they sell out. They’re so good”, I sent Michelle in a text message the other day.

Now in his 80s, Jack has a routine of heading into town in Lismore every few days and buying groceries.

He’s been at a bit of a loss since the flood in Lismore earlier this year caused the closure of Aldi. Thankfully, they’ve re-opened, and thankfully they have plum pudding.… Read the rest “Christmas Pudding”

Christmas Is Almost Here

Though I grew up with plastic Christmas trees, a “real one” is so much nicer. But on the other hand, I don’t like the idea of chopping down a tree for only a couple of weeks. I also live in a small apartment, so a big tree can look out of place. So, for me, a small tree suits best, and also if it’s living.

Guess what I found at the supermarket this morning?

Hopefully I won’t kill it ahead of next year.

Christmas Music in Sweden

They’ve been playing Christmas music in the shops for a few weeks, and Christmas is still two weeks away!

Here in Australia, there’s a certain cringe factor with the likes of Michael Buble and Mariah Carey with their “Christmas Albums”. However, as I’ve written previously, the Swedes seem to love it, and at this time of the year, the Swedish charts are usually full of a combination of new and older Christmas songs.

You Know It’s Christmas In A Week And A Day

As I’ve previously mentioned here, I’m a fan of Swedish pop singer, Magnus Carlsson. With Christmas coming “in a week and a day”, this is one of my favourite songs from him.

The jolly season is aproaching fast
Giving us a reason to be happy at last
I just wanna give you
The best that I have got
And it’s yours to keep
Waiting under the tree

You know it’s christmas in a week and a day
And I just can’t figure out what to give away
So I just wrap myself in paper for you baby

And then the christmas is past and long gone away
I’ll be right in your arms with a card that says
That I love you –
Merry christmas to you baby

We’re far from strangers
You’ve got a special glow
When we’re making angels in the beautiful snow
I just wanna give you
The love of my heart
And it’s yours to keep
Waiting under the tree

And here’s the full song.… Read the rest “You Know It’s Christmas In A Week And A Day”

You know it’s Christmas in a week and a day…

You know it’s christmas in a week and a day
and I just can’t figure out what to give away
So I just wrap myself in paper for you baby

“Wrap myself in paper” by Magnus Carlsson has been my favourite “Christmas song” for the last few years.

I discovered it at about the time I discovered the broader Magnus oeuvre and, although it’s camp and cheesy, I LOVE IT.

The music is fun, the lyrics are playful, and Magnus sings it in just the right tone.… Read the rest “You know it’s Christmas in a week and a day…”
