Goodbye Perth

Fremantle, Western Australia
Fremantle, Western Australia

It’s lunchtime Saturday and I’m sitting in an internet cafe in Fremantle. Earlier today, I removed the last of my belongings from my home in Perth – I’d left some clothes in a drawer – and I’m now officially living at the Novotel Hotel.

The last week has been reasonably interesting with lots of highlights, both personal and professional, especially yesterday when I went out for lunch with Christian, Monty, Tod and a few others. The meal was at a Turkish restaurant with the rather odd name of Eminem was delicious. Highly recommended. From there it was back for a drink or several with colleagues popping in to bid farewell. I went into my office earlier today and it has a slight brewery smell about it, which I’ll attend to later today or earlier tomorrow when I go into work.

I’m leaving Perth with mixed emotions. Although I’ve been four thousand kilometres away from those I hold dear, I’ve met some really terrific people through work and I’m going to miss them a lot. I hope they all get their act together so they can all come to Sydney for our “annual conference” which will be held in May. And although there are some aspects about the job I’ve been doing that I’ve really hated, I think it’s been a good year professionally for me too. Going into a new job brings with it uncertainty about whether or not, as the saying goes, I might be stepping out of the frying pan and into the fire. It’s an interesting headspace to be in.

I’ll be offline for a couple of days, due to moving, so best to call me on the mobile, if you want to reach me.
