Three Songs

My three favourite songs at the moment, the ones I keep playing on my mp3 player are a mixed bag, but they all have interesting lyrics. I really love “Flithy, Gorgeous” by Scissor Sisters (because it’s a bit naughty)…

I really like “In Private” by Pet Shop Boys and Elton John (because it’s a good lyric to a great tune)…

…and I really love “I Walk With You, Mama” by Anne Sofie von Otter because it makes me cry. This song began its life as an instrumental by Benny Andersson (from ABBA) called “Stockholm By Night”. Now, with a lyric by Bjorn Ulvaeus (also from ABBA), it has a new life that makes me so sad, reflecting on the sometimes difficult relationship between a mother and child.

Filthy, Gorgeous
Scissor Sisters

Oh you’re so filthy
And I am gorgeous

When you’re walkin’ down the street
And a man tries to get your business
And the people that you meet
Want to open you up like Christmas
You gotta wrap your fuzzy with a big red bow
and you know some bitch gonna treat me like a ho
I’m a classy honey kissy huggy lovey dovey ghetto princess

Cuz you’re filthy (filthy)
Oooh, and I’m gorgeous (gorgeous)
Cuz you’re filthy (filthy)
Oooh, and I’m gorgeous (gorgeous)
You’re disgusting
Oooh, and you’re nasty
And you can grab me
Oooh cuz you’re nasty

When you’re runnin’ from a trick
And you trip on a hit of acid
You gotta work for the man
But your biggest moneymakers’ flaccid
You gotta keep your shit together
With your feet on the ground
There ain’t no one gonna listen
If you haven’t made a sound
You’re an acid junkie college flunky dirty puppy daddy bastard

Cuz you’re filthy (filthy)
Oooh, and I’m gorgeous (gorgeous)
Cuz you’re filthy (filthy)
Oooh, and I’m gorgeous (gorgeous)
You’re disgusting
Oooh, and you’re nasty
And you can grab me
Oooh cuz you’re nasty

Cuz you’re filthy (so filthy)
Oooh, and I’m gorgeous (oooh gorgeous)
Cuz you’re filthy (filthy)
Oooh, and I’m gorgeous (oooh you’re so gorgeous)
You’re disgusting (oh yeah)
And you’re nasty (you make me feel so nasty)
You can grab me (grab it)
Oooh cause you’re nasty

every day and every night the people they say to me,
‘miss ana thank you for the beautiful work that you be doing for our people, because everytime you get out of your corvette stingray in your white pumps and your pink acid wash jeans with the matching pink rabbit fur coat… we say miss thang you got it going on you is gorgeous.’

New York City ladies are blessed with the best dressed chest.
Don’t miss that quest for the best set.
Confess, are they siliconeless?

Sally walks the street, gotta meet with the freak for the street heat.
Skip a beat till the next week.
Let’s freak, freak, ‘tween the silk sheets.

In Private
Pet Shop Boys and Elton John

Take your time and tell me
Where you lie
I realise
That weve been found out this time

We should stay together
If we can
But what youve planned
Means theres a difference between

What youre gonna say
In private
You still want my love
Were in this together
And what youre gonna do
In public
Say you were never in love
That you can remember

So discreet
I never tried to meet
Your friends or interfere
I took a back seat between

And what you gonna say
In private?
You still want my love
Were in this together
And what youre gonna do
In public
Say you were never in love
That you can remember

What you gonna say, ay
When you run back to your wife?
I guess its just the story of my life
What you gonna say?

So take your time
And tell me
Where did you learn
Oh, I may publicise
That theres a difference between

What youre gonna say
In private?
You still want my love
Were in this together
And what youre gonna do
In public
Say you were never in love
That you can remember
Tell me what you gonna say
In private? , ooh, ooh, ooh
What you gonna say?
What you gonna do?
Baby, what you gonna say?

I Walk With You, Mama (Stockholm By Night)
Anne Sofie von Otter

I walk with you, Mama,
The path along the river,
We feed the swans, we say hello to people that we meet,
I talk with you Mama,
And i listen and I hear you say.
I’m sorry that I left you on your own this way.

I walk with you, Mama,
the park in autumn colours,
The sadness in the air as oak and maples shed their leaves,
I talk with you, Mama,
And I listen,
And I hear you say,
I’m sorry that i left you on your own this way.

Yes, you should have stayed a bit longer,
Given me some more of your time,
Couldn’t even wait to say goodbye,
How could you be in such a frightful hurry?
Leaving me with so many questions,
Having so much more love to give,
In a way I’ve come to terms I know now,
Athough it seems everywhere that I go now…

I walk with you, Mama,
A road that knows a journey,
Retracing every footstep,
Every sunday in the park,
I talk with you, Mama,

And I listen
And I hear you say
I’m sorry that I left you on your own this way
