Day At The Pub

Two or three times a year a bunch of us catch up for an afternoon of lunch, drinks and chatter.

Sometimes we’ll head over to Manly, though mostly it’s at a pub fairly close to Central Station in Sydney.

The common connection is that we’re all “ABBA Fans”. Well, not all of us anymore, and so it’s a connection which has transcended that connection somewhat.

Thousand Miles from Care

While most surfboards in Australia are emblazoned with names and logos like Billabong, Quiksilver and Rip Curl, we saw one in Manly today with a brand name we’ve never come across before: it must have something to do with roosters.

We were at Manly as a welcoming party of Liesbeth, a Dutch-American woman we’ve come to know through ABBA fandom. Manly Ferry

The trip to Manly always evokes memories of the song “Reckless” by Australian Crawl, a song from my final year at high school. As an Australian of a particular age, how can you not catch the ferry without singing the line…. “as the Manly Ferry cuts its way to Circular Quay”…?
