October Socials
Conscious that I sometimes share material on other platforms that never makes “the cut” here on my blog, I will start sharing a few bits and pieces here also. These are the tweets, posts, and observations that still seem relevant at the end of each month. Lots of ephemera, but hopefully still quite entertaining.

October 14 : The vibe amongst people I’ve spoken to is this: “Even if Gladys knew everything, can’t we forgive her/postpone it for a couple of years? Everyone else is so totally hopeless…”

October 24 : Overheard at the bottleshop, two young men. 1 : Do you think she’s pretty? 2.: Yeah 1: Do you think shes a lesbian? 2 : Yeah, yeah. 1: Yeah, its the art gallery thing. The other person in the queue, who I assumed was a lesbian, and I smiled and rolled our eyes.
October 26 : Getting NBN installed, and so I will soon have a home phone again. I’ve just emailed the two people likely to call me on it.
October 31 : Just ran into someone I know who is a former LNP staffer (for a fairly conservative federal MP) “God help the world if Trump is re elected” he said. Thinking it must be a fairly extreme part of the LNP who would want his success

I don’t share your interlocutors’ desire to let Gladys off the hook because “everybody else” is so hopeless. That’s partly because I don’t think she is (apart from the Maguire stuff) so great. That people think so strikes me as a bit of a covid/incumbency dividend, not necessarily earned. Still, it looks as though she’s toughed things out for now.
I agree there’s a false dichotomy between the relationship choices she made and her official role, as the narrative has developed in the media.
