Until I began to research this trip, I hadn't known of the "Backfika" phenomenon in Stockholm, where Michelin-rated restaurants often operate lower priced bistros. Last week, I visited "Oaxen" and today, I had lunch at a place called "Eriks Backfika", which in this case, is a close relative of Gondolen, the iconic Stockholm restaurant with … Continue reading Måndag’s Views

Since 2008, I have visited Sweden (in particular, Stockholm) on several occasions. By my reckoning, I’ve “lived there” for almost six months. I really like the country, have made some friends there, and whenever there’s a few spare dollars in my account, I can’t help but be tempted to pay another visit. These are my travel tips from my visits to Sweden, all in one place. Unlike some of the many other reviews/tips you’ll read, these mostly don’t include information about entry times, prices etc, it’s more what I thought/felt about the many things I have done.
Surprisingly (for the Swedish train system), the train back from Eskilstuna ran a little late. The turnaround between arriving home, and then heading to Ekerö left me with only a few minute to drop my bag off and have a shower. "Excuse me, I have to take some more photographs", I said to my friend Mattias, as we enjoyed conversation and a beer at Blå Dörren (a bar at Slussen). Though the sunset last night was not as spectacular as earlier in the week, the night colours (once the sun had set) were beautiful. Before and … Continue reading Stockholm i Natt

However, as I got off the ferry, I took a right turn instead of a left. I've long been on the view that it's often a … Continue reading Take The Other Turn
If you're planning a visit to Uppsala and you like things to be open, Monday probably isn't the day you should visit. In the back of my mind, I knew most museums and galleries were probably going to be closed, but I headed off anyway. The train from Stockholm takes about an hour, and costs … Continue reading Closed on Monday
Even though I have been told on a few occasions, I should keep the blind closed at night, due to the early morning sunrise, I have not bothered much with the advice. I quite like waking up early, and I quite like waking up naturally, you might say, with the sunshine. Besides, when you wake … Continue reading Early Riser
"You really must come back to Sweden in the spring or summer", I wrote to my friend Sue yesterday, attaching a bunch of photographs from my morning walk around Djurgården. Sue came with me to Sweden four years ago, in March, when there was still a lot of snow and ice around. In contrast, the … Continue reading Summer in Stockholm
