Over the last few days, I’ve spent a fair bit of time peeking through windows.
I’ve been keen to look at what’s happening behind the (still) mud-stained windows of the many (still) closed shops of Lismore, three months after the devastating floods.
A few days ago, the former Mayor of Lismore, Jenny Dowell tweeted this rather startling observation.
A friend counted the open shops in our #Lismore inner CBD block today – 18 of the 130 Let that sink in- more than 3 months after the catastrophic floods. We need much more help from our governments #lismoreflood
With each passing day, things are improving, but there’s still a long way to go.
The Richmond Hotel officially closed a couple of weekends ago. The damage caused by the flood has been too much for the long-term owners.Taking a peak into the window of Mary G’s. I’m not sure if the hotel still is owned by the former Queensland footballer, Paul Vautin, but he certainly owned it for a time. The nightclub area up the back has re-opened with sparsely decorated furniture and a concrete floor.Taking a peek into the window of the former Lismore Post Office, a wonderful old building that dates to the late 1800s.
A Sunday afternoon view of the part of the Lismore CBD.
Video was good. Could I suggest that maybe next time when filming street views/walks you tilt the phone up/back just a tad? At least that would be my taste.
I was going to make a quip about your radio background. Looking again it’s fine at the start but a downward tilt creeps in at about 22 seconds in, probably because you were concentrating on crossing the road.

Not sure if you've read this yet: https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v47/n17/paul-laity/after-martha but thought I might mention it. Seems to be paywall free for…
I know what you mean. I'm going to write a post some day about how I use my mobile phone…

sad figures, hope you all get the help you need, and soon. x
Thanks Matthew. I feel like our family is doing okay. Much worse stories. Gotta keep the story out there.
